Last week was all about precision, power, and a little bit of nerdy excitement 🤓. I had the chance to visit REGAL MACHINERY CO., LTD., a Taiwanese company quietly doing big things in the world of gear reducers (a.k.a. 減速機). Spoiler alert: they’re not just making gearboxes—they’re rewriting the rulebook.
Let me paint the scene. We pulled up to a modest-looking factory in central Taiwan. Nothing fancy on the outside, but inside? Pure mechanical genius. The first thing that struck me was that these folks don’t just manufacture reducers—they build the machines that make the reducers. That’s right. Most of the machinery here is self-designed, self-built, and constantly optimized. They’re not just using the equipment—they own the tech.
One of the most impressive things? Their self-developed thread rolling machine. It’s a beast. Compared to traditional machines, this one is 5 to 6 times faster in production. Even Japanese industrial giant KHK—yes, that KHK—chose to purchase this machine. That’s not something you see every day. It’s a big win for Taiwanese manufacturing, earning recognition on the global stage 🇹🇼🌍
And here’s another wow moment: to prove the reliability of their reducers, Regal built a transparent gearbox. You can literally see their custom internal structure and oil circuit design in motion. It’s like watching a high-tech heart beating—clean, smart, and powerful. 🔧🛠️
They’ve also teamed up with Feng Chia University to co-create AI-integrated teaching materials, making their plant a hybrid of factory and training ground. Why? Because most mechanical engineering students graduate without ever touching real equipment. Regal wants to change that.
What blew my mind was how gear reducers—these unseen mechanical heroes—are everywhere: escalators, food mixers, cranes, construction lifts. Even that gentle spin at the sushi belt restaurant? Yep, it’s driven by a reducer 🍣⚙️
And it doesn’t stop there. Regal customizes every reducer for each use case—food-safe lubricants for kitchens, sealed housings for outdoor machinery, extra torque for industrial loads. Whether it’s for a robot arm or a dumpling machine, they’ve got you covered 🤖🥟
Of course, I shared what we do at Kuma Technology, introducing our CNC machining strengths. Mr. Hung , Regal’s CEO, walked us through the entire operation. His philosophy stuck with me: “We build what we need. That’s how we know exactly what the market needs.”
Huge thanks to Mr. Hung and the amazing team at REGAL MACHINERY CO., LTD. for their hospitality, innovation, and the serious gearhead vibes 🔥
